"La Cantatrice Chauve / The Bald Soprana"
"La Cantatrice Chauve" is an episode of a series dedicated to postmodernism, a movement that I would characterized as being structured and constructed akin to the construction of malls; a mega-manifestation inside the recent modernism which covers all the areas of the existence of the individual and a meta-manifestation caused by overcoming boundaries either in areas where this is necessary or in obscure areas characterized by abuses against life in general, whether animals or humans.
This huge complex we call postmodernism becomes with more or less controversial ingredients, an opioid of the modern world, widely used for therapeutic, recreational or self-defense and self-legitimation purposes.
"La Cantatrice Chauve" / "The bald soprana" - is the title I borrowed from the theatrical play with the same name, by Eugen Ionesco, a "theater of absurd" play, one of the literary genres usually associated with postmodernism.
Just like in the theater of absurd, the bald soprana will always play areas whose consistency is almost identical to that of a soap bubbles, sterile, confused and beautifully colored words, precisely as most postmodern discourses in which moral relativism, the existence of multiple, false and contextual truths are best advertised and presented to an inappropriate and injudicious audience.
Like layers in computer graphics software, dozens of overlapping polycarbonate sheets build the character, they can be seen as the layers that form the character of the individual, each sheet being a specific characteristic of the character of each individual, one sheet can signify the political view of the individual and another one the religious affiliations, the individual's beliefs about every aspect of Life.
On the other hand, the design, construction and operation of the work, the exclusive execution by means of numerically controlled machines, the design made entirely by means of three computer graphics software, the existence of engines controlled by a microcontroller and a motion sensor, all this announces the emergence of artificial intelligence in everyday life, in contemporary world and along with it, the solitude and isolation that we feel when the world around us becomes an aggressive environment in our perception and we seek a refuge in all this new intelligent devices we are surrounded by.
Finally, the work is not necessarily a critique of the present time, but rather an apology of a future in which the possibilities go beyond any imagination and in which we can avoid the worst version of existence through a good education and embracing of human values.
